Oyakata – Chicken Ramen

Pot

A standard size Noodle pot, with white text on a black background, makes this pot look premium but without it looking like its trying to hard to be.

The foil lid continues the simplistic white on black theme, but confusingly drops the word chicken from the description. The pot itself is another half recyclable item being a cardboard wrap on a plastic cup.

What’s Inside and how to prepare

Peeling the lid halfway, you will see the Chicken Ramen flavouring on top. I am yet to be convinced these extra sachets of powder are required, when I if the lids sealed anyway, why not just put the flavouring straight on the noodles in the pot?

Hidden underneath the sachet appeared to be a decent amount of Sweetcorn and other vegetables. The designers have also managed to print on the inside of the cardboard wrap a Water fill guide, that appears through the thin plastic cup.

Taste

I can now see why there is a little confusion between the label on the pot and the lid, as while the subtle stock flavouring was very good, I could not taste anything remotely like chicken.

The noodles seemed a bit wider than you would normally expect and had a great texture and taste to them. The star of the show though was the Sweetcorn, as I ate the sweetcorn I was amazed to get the full taste and texture of what good sweetcorn should taste like, as too often its just yellow filler. However they get the Sweetcorn to taste so good, I think other producers should take note and try and replicate this.

Quick Summary & Rating

While the main elements of this noodle pot didn’t stand out from the crowd, the sweetcorn was truly amazing.
